Google shared statistics of its first-ever study conducted in Pakistan. The results state that stated slightly more than half of Pakistani are using the internet. The results state that 54% of Pakistanis have access to the internet, of which 76% reside in Karachi, Lahore, Rawalpindi, and Islamabad.
The research titled “Journey to Digital” shows how Pakistanis consume of internet. Results show that 66 percent of Internet users are from urban areas, while 44 percent belong to rural areas, and 46 percent of Pakistanis have access to the internet all day. Males from 1995-2010 and employed have a higher ratio of internet access.
Reports also suggested that web usage surged due to the Covid pandemic as the number of users increased by ten persons among people during quarantine. Moreover, youtube is the app with the highest usage of 90 percent for entertainment and research regarding shopping.
The research shows the increasing popularity of e-commerce as more than 70 percent prefer online shopping and found it convenient. More than 60 percent of internet users have made an online purchase once in their life, while there is an exponential increase in online spending during the pandemic. Research also signaled a bright future of e-commerce in Pakistan.
