Former speaker of Sindh Assembly Agha Siraj Durrani Passes Away

Former Sindh Assembly Speaker and senior Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) leader Agha Siraj Durrani passed away in Karachi on Wednesday at the age of 74. His death marks the end of a long and influential political career that spanned several decades in Sindh’s political landscape.

According to hospital sources, Durrani had been under treatment at a private hospital for multiple health complications over the past few days. Despite efforts by doctors, his condition deteriorated, and he breathed his last on Wednesday morning.

Durrani was one of the most prominent political figures in Sindh, known for his loyalty to the Pakistan People’s Party and his strong presence in provincial politics.

During his career, he served in several key positions, including as Speaker of the Sindh Assembly, where he played an important role in managing legislative affairs and maintaining the house’s decorum. His colleagues remember him as a seasoned politician with firm principles and a deep connection to the people of Sindh.

After funeral prayers in Karachi, his body will be transported to his hometown, Shikarpur, where he will be laid to rest with full respect. Party workers and supporters from across Sindh are expected to attend the burial to pay their final respects.

Leaders from various political parties expressed sorrow over his death, praising his lifelong commitment to public service and his contributions to democracy in Pakistan.

They said his passing leaves a major void in Sindh’s political leadership. Funeral arrangements are being finalized by his family and party officials.
