Hailstorm and Rain Cause Floods and Power Outages in KP

Heavy rain and hailstorms hit several parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), especially the districts of Dir and Swat, causing severe flooding, power outages, and traffic disruptions. The unexpected weather turned life upside down for residents, damaging homes, vehicles, and crops across the region.

In Dir, the torrential downpour was so intense that it turned day into night. Roads were blocked by rainwater and hail, making travel nearly impossible. Local farmers reported heavy damage to standing crops, raising concerns about food and livelihood losses in the coming weeks.

In Swat, the situation was equally alarming. Areas like Mingora experienced flash floods that entered homes and shops, while drainage systems failed to handle the heavy flow of water. Electricity poles were damaged, leading to widespread power outages that lasted for hours.

The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) issued a weather alert, warning residents of more rain, snowfall, and possible landslides in upper areas such as Malam Jabba, Kalam, and Chitral. People have been advised to stay indoors, avoid unnecessary travel, and take precautions against cold and slippery roads.

Local authorities have been instructed to remain on high alert, clear blocked roads, and ensure drainage systems are functioning properly. Rescue teams are also on standby to assist affected families.

As temperatures continue to drop, the province braces for more challenging weather conditions, with hopes that relief efforts will prevent further loss and hardship for the people of KP.
