No E-Tag, No Entry in Islamabad! New Rule Enforced

Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has announced a new directive requiring all vehicles entering Islamabad to be equipped with an electronic tag (E-tag) within the next two weeks.

The rule, aimed at tightening security and streamlining traffic management, will apply to both residents and visitors. After the deadline, vehicles without valid E-tags will not be allowed to enter the federal capital.

Authorities have stated that the decision comes as part of a broader effort to enhance surveillance, ensure efficient monitoring at entry points, and reduce manual checking delays. The E-tag system allows automatic identification of vehicles, helping law enforcement agencies track movement and maintain real-time records.

Residents have been urged to obtain their E-tags from authorized centers before the enforcement date. Special counters and facilitation booths will reportedly be set up across the city to assist vehicle owners in completing the registration process smoothly.

Officials clarified that the new rule will be implemented without exemptions, emphasizing that compliance is necessary for both private and government vehicles.

The move has received mixed reactions from the public, some view it as a positive step toward digital transformation and urban security, while others express concern over the short implementation timeline.

With the enforcement date approaching, Islamabad’s administration has urged citizens to act promptly to avoid inconvenience and ensure uninterrupted entry into the city.
