The Punjab government has introduced a new set of strict traffic penalties under the revised Motor Vehicle Act to promote safer roads and responsible driving habits across the province.
The updated law brings a significant rise in fines for eight common traffic violations, aiming to reduce reckless behavior and ensure better compliance with road safety rules.
According to officials, the new policy targets offenses that directly impact public safety and environmental health.
Drivers found guilty of causing air pollution through smoke-emitting vehicles will now face substantial fines. The same applies to those who park in no-parking zones, throw garbage on roads, or block pedestrian walkways.
The government has also raised penalties for underage driving one of the biggest contributors to accidents in Punjab. Similarly, driving without wearing a seatbelt, using a mobile phone behind the wheel, and carrying more than two passengers on a motorcycle will now result in heavy fines.
Authorities have stated that these steps are part of a broader road safety reform designed to encourage discipline among motorists.
They believe that higher penalties will discourage careless driving, protect pedestrians, and improve traffic flow in major cities such as Lahore, Faisalabad, and Rawalpindi.
Officials further emphasized that awareness campaigns will soon be launched to educate the public about the new regulations.
The Punjab government hopes this initiative will make roads safer for everyone and remind citizens that following traffic laws is not just a duty but a shared responsibility.
