British Council and ICAP Partner to Strengthen English Language Proficiency for Future Chartered Accountants

The British Council and the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Pakistan (ICAP) have signed a new agreement to enhance English language assessment and communication skills for ICAP students preparing for the Chartered Accountancy qualification.

Under this partnership, ICAP students will now take their English assessment through Aptis, the British Council’s globally recognised English language testing system aligned with the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). This alignment ensures ICAP’s language standards reflect international benchmarks and supports the institute’s commitment to continuous quality enhancement and global relevance.

The collaboration marks an important step toward preparing Pakistan’s future chartered accountants for success in an increasingly interconnected professional world—equipping them with stronger communication skills, global employability, and confidence to engage effectively in diverse business environments.

Amanda Ingram, Exams Director, British Council Pakistan, said: “This collaboration between British Council and ICAP reflects our shared commitment to excellence, integrity, and innovation. By combining British Council’s expertise in English language assessment with ICAP’s leadership in professional development, we aim to strengthen the capabilities of future finance professionals. Together, we are fostering a generation of chartered accountants equipped with the communication skills, confidence and global outlook needed to excel in an interconnected world.”

Omair Jamal, Secretary & Chief Operating Officer of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Pakistan said “We are grateful to the British Council for partnering with ICAP to strengthen the English language and communication skills of our students. In today’s globalised business environment, effective communication is essential for professional success. This collaboration reflects our shared vision of preparing future chartered accountants with the confidence, clarity, and competence to engage and lead in diverse international contexts.”

The partnership reinforces the shared commitment of the British Council and ICAP to fostering skills development, international standards, and professional excellence across Pakistan’s education and business sectors.
