Pakistan’s Aid Delivery to Sri Lanka Delayed by 60 Hours Due to India with Holding Full Flight Clearance

Pakistan said its humanitarian aid flight for Sri Lanka was delayed for almost 60 hours because India did not give full and timely clearance for the aircraft to use its airspace.

According to Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry, a special plane carrying emergency relief goods was ready to leave, but it had to wait for India’s approval. Officials said that India only granted partial clearance late on Sunday, which could not be used because it did not meet the operational requirements of the flight.

Pakistan stated that this delay badly affected their urgent mission to help the people of Sri Lanka, who are facing a major disaster. The ministry expressed disappointment, saying that such humanitarian efforts should not be slowed down, especially when lives are at risk.

They stressed that Pakistan and Sri Lanka share a strong bond, and the aid was meant to support “the brotherly people of Sri Lanka” during a critical time.

India, on the other hand, denied the accusation and said it did not block its airspace for the Pakistani aircraft. Indian officials claimed that no improper delay was caused from their side.

Sri Lanka is currently struggling with the aftermath of Cyclone Ditwah, which has brought severe flooding and landslides across the country. The disaster has caused widespread destruction.

At least 153 people have died, 191 are still missing, and more than half a million people have been affected. Rescue teams, government departments, and volunteers are still working to provide food, shelter, medicines, and other help to the affected communities.

Pakistan said it remains committed to supporting Sri Lanka and will continue its relief efforts despite the delays and challenges.
