Norway to Build World’s Longest and Deepest Undersea Road Tunnel

Norway has started building Rogfast, which will become the world’s longest and deepest undersea road tunnel. The tunnel will be 26.7 km long and will go almost 392 meters below the sea. It is part of the E39 coastal highway project, which aims to make travel between Stavanger and Bergen much easier and faster.

When the tunnel opens in 2033, it will shorten travel time by about 40 minutes and remove the need for ferry crossings. Rogfast will have two traffic tubes and extremely deep underground roundabouts beneath Kvitsøy, showing how advanced modern engineering has become.

The project is expected to greatly improve daily travel, make freight movement more efficient, and boost tourism along Norway’s beautiful west coast.
