President Zardari Grants Two-Year Extension to Air Chief Zaheer Ahmad Babar Sidhu

President Asif Ali Zardari has approved an extension for Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmad Babar Sidhu, allowing him to remain the Chief of Air Staff for two more years.

His extended term means he will continue leading the Pakistan Air Force beyond March 19, 2026. This decision ensures that ongoing projects and long-term plans of the Air Force will continue without interruption.

Air Chief Marshal Sidhu has been heading the Pakistan Air Force since 2021. During his leadership, the force has focused on improving air defence, strengthening technology systems, and modernizing aircraft and equipment.

The extension will allow him to continue guiding these important initiatives, many of which require consistent leadership and long-term planning.

Officials believe that this continuity is important at a time when the region is facing new security challenges and rapid technological changes in air warfare. Sidhu’s experience and understanding of Pakistan’s defence needs are seen as valuable assets for keeping the Air Force on its modernization path.

The extension also supports several major projects currently underway, including upgrades to radar systems, improvements in surveillance and intelligence capabilities, and the development of new training programs for pilots and technical staff.

Under his leadership, the Air Force has also focused on building stronger cooperation with friendly countries and expanding participation in international training exercises.

By allowing him to continue his role, the government aims to maintain stability within the Air Force and ensure that all strategic goals stay on track. The decision reflects confidence in his leadership and his ability to guide the force through the next phase of development.

Air Chief Marshal Sidhu is expected to keep working on enhancing operational readiness and supporting innovation across the Pakistan Air Force.
