‘Pakistan Adds Population Larger Than Entire New Zealand Every Year, Health Minister

Federal Health Minister Mustafa Kamal has drawn attention to Pakistan’s fast-growing population, saying that every year the country adds more people than the total population of New Zealand. He explained that this rapid increase is putting serious pressure on the country’s health system.

While speaking at an event at a university in Karachi, the minister warned that Pakistan could face major public health problems if it does not secure enough vaccines and expand local vaccine production. He said relying heavily on imports and not investing in local manufacturing could leave the country unprepared during health emergencies.

Mustafa Kamal also pointed out that Pakistan continues to struggle with high maternal and child death rates. He said many women and children still do not receive timely medical care, especially in underdeveloped and rural areas. According to him, hospitals and healthcare centers are already overcrowded and understaffed, making it difficult to meet the needs of a growing population.

The minister stressed that immediate investment is needed in healthcare infrastructure, vaccination programs, and preventive care. He added that strengthening immunization systems and improving access to basic health services are essential to avoid future health crises. Kamal urged policymakers, institutions, and the private sector to work together to improve public health and protect future generations.
