Anita Karim, one of Pakistan’s most inspiring female athletes, has achieved a major milestone by becoming the country’s first woman to earn a brown belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ). This achievement marks a historic moment for combat sports in Pakistan and highlights her years of hard work and dedication.
Anita began her journey in martial arts with taekwondo and jiu-jitsu before moving into mixed martial arts (MMA). At the start of her career, she faced criticism and social resistance for choosing a sport that is often seen as male-dominated. However, her determination, discipline, and improving skills slowly changed perceptions and earned her respect.
About eight years ago, she made history by becoming the first Pakistani woman to compete internationally in MMA. This breakthrough opened new doors and eventually led to her signing with ONE Championship, one of Asia’s biggest and most respected MMA organizations. Her journey was not without obstacles. In 2018, her debut fight was delayed due to concerns related to her competition attire, but she remained focused and continued to push forward.
Anita Karim is now known for her strong and aggressive grappling style, especially her ability to finish fights on the ground. Her signature armlock has become her trademark, and in 2022 she earned the nickname “the arm collector” after two opponents suffered broken arms during her matches. This reputation reflects her technical skill, strength, and confidence inside the cage.
Through her achievements, Anita Karim has not only built an impressive career but has also paved the way for future female fighters in Pakistan, proving that determination and passion can break barriers and create history.
