China’s Huawei goal to reach self-driving automobile technology by 2025

As the world’s largest telecoms equipment company diversifies its business in the face of US sanctions, Huawei Technologies plans to develop driverless passenger car technology by 2025, according to an executive.

“In 2025, our team’s goal is to achieve completely driverless passenger cars,” Wang Jun, a senior executive at Huawei’s innovative vehicle unit, said at an industry conference.

Since the US government imposed restrictions that affected Huawei’s smartphone business, one of its primary operations, the company has been focusing on small electric vehicles. Currently, the firm is focusing on developing its own self-driving car technology, as well as launching different car-related components that have been used in cars from manufacturers such as Mercedes-Benz and BMW.

As a result, the 2025 objective appears to align with its aspirations to develop self-driving technology that will be used in cars from other manufacturers.
