The Punjab Excise and Taxation Department has launched a new biometric verification system for vehicles through the PAK ID App, aiming to modernize ownership transfer and registration processes across the province.
The initiative has been developed in collaboration with the National Database and Registration Authority and the Punjab Information Technology Board.
Officials say the digital system will allow vehicle owners, including overseas Pakistanis, to complete biometric verification and Face ID authentication entirely online.
This removes the need for embassy visits, physical affidavits, and other manual paperwork that previously caused delays.
Under the new framework, vehicle ownership transfers can be finalized within 48 hours once verification is completed.
Authorities believe the integration of biometric data with national identity records will help prevent fraud, reduce impersonation cases, and strengthen transparency in vehicle transactions.
Punjab has been gradually expanding its e-governance services in recent years, introducing online tax payments, digital driving licenses, and automated registration systems.
The PAK ID App builds on these reforms by reducing human intervention and limiting opportunities for middlemen.
Officials describe the system as a step toward citizen focused governance, making public services more accessible and efficient.
For vehicle owners, especially those living abroad, the digital platform is expected to save time, lower costs, and simplify procedures that once required multiple office visits.
