The Government of Pakistan has announced the new Zakat Nisab for the year 2026. This year, the minimum balance required for Zakat deduction has been set at Rs. 503,529.
This means that Zakat will only be deducted from bank accounts that have this amount or more. If an account balance is below this limit, no Zakat will be taken.
The new Nisab shows a major increase compared to last year. In 2025, the minimum amount was Rs. 179,689. The sharp rise of around 180 percent is mainly due to the increase in gold and silver prices, which are used to calculate the Nisab value each year. When the prices of these metals go up, the Nisab amount also increases.
Zakat will be deducted from savings accounts, profit-and-loss sharing accounts, and similar types of bank accounts. The deduction will take place on the first day of Ramazan, which is expected to be February 19, 2026, depending on the official moon sighting.
Banks have been directed to transfer all collected Zakat funds to the Central Zakat Account maintained by the State Bank of Pakistan. They are also required to submit proper reports and official returns to ensure full transparency in the process.
The announcement aims to provide clear guidance to banks and account holders about the new threshold. It also ensures that the Zakat system continues to operate in an organized and transparent manner across the country.
