The federal government has announced another temporary reduction in petroleum prices, providing short-term relief to consumers across Pakistan. According to a notification issued by the Petroleum Division, the prices of both petrol and high-speed diesel have been decreased by Rs. 6 per litre for the next seven days.
Following the latest revision, the new price of petrol has been fixed at Rs. 403.78 per litre, while high-speed diesel will now be available at Rs. 403.58 per litre. The revised rates will come into effect from Saturday, May 23, 2026.
The latest cut comes just a week after the government reduced fuel prices by Rs. 5 per litre for both petrol and diesel, continuing a series of short-term adjustments linked to changes in international oil markets. Officials say the revisions are being made in line with fluctuations in global crude oil prices and import costs.
The reduction is expected to provide some relief to motorists, transporters, and commuters who have been facing rising transportation and daily living expenses. Public transport operators and businesses dependent on fuel have also welcomed the decrease, although many consumers believe a more substantial and long-term reduction is still needed.
Petroleum prices in Pakistan are reviewed periodically based on global market trends, exchange rate movements, and government taxation policies. Analysts say fuel prices may continue to fluctuate in the coming weeks depending on international oil market conditions.
