Farhan Sahibzada Overtakes Virat Kohli to Achieve Highest Runs in Single Tournament

Pakistan batsman Sahibzada Farhan made history on 28 February 2026, breaking a long‑standing batting record in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup.

Farhan scored more runs in one edition of the tournament than any other batter, overtaking the mark previously held by Virat Kohli since 2014.

Farhan was in superb form throughout the 2026 World Cup. In Pakistan’s match against Sri Lanka at the Super Eights stage, he surpassed Kohli’s total of 319 runs by hitting his 323rd run of the tournament.

Farhan moved past the record early in the game and completed the milestone with a boundary in the sixth over. His total came from six innings, including a century against Namibia earlier in the competition.

Before this, Virat Kohli had held the record for more than a decade, scoring 319 runs in the 2014 T20 World Cup for India. That tournament performance was widely praised for his consistency and ability to make big scores against quality bowling attacks.

Farhan’s achievement is significant both for his career and for Pakistan cricket. Analysts say it shows his ability to perform well under pressure and to lead the batting effort for his team.

His performance included key 50‑plus scores and an unbeaten hundred that helped Pakistan advance in the tournament stages.

This record has sparked talk among fans and pundits about Farhan’s place among the top modern T20 batsmen, and it may inspire a new generation of players in Pakistan and beyond.
