US to Build its First Ever Oil Refinery in $300 Billion Deal with Indian Company “Reliance”

US President Donald Trump has announced plans for a new oil refinery to be built along the southern border of the United States, with investment support from India’s Reliance Industries. The proposed facility will be located in Brownsville, Texas, and is expected to have a processing capacity of about 168,000 barrels of crude oil per day. The project is intended to increase the processing of American shale oil, strengthen domestic energy security, and expand industrial activity in the region.

Reliance Industries has reportedly entered into a long-term 20-year offtake agreement to purchase refined products from the facility once it becomes operational. Trump described the refinery as an important economic and strategic development that could help reduce the United States’ trade deficit with India, which is estimated at around $300 billion. However, some energy analysts have questioned the necessity of constructing another refinery along the Gulf Coast, noting that the region already has significant refining capacity. According to preliminary plans, construction of the Brownsville refinery is expected to begin in the second quarter of 2026.
