Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah has announced a Rs2,000 monthly fuel subsidy for all registered motorcycle owners in the province to help ease the burden of record-high petrol prices. He announced during a press conference in Karachi on Friday.
The subsidy equals Rs100 per litre on 20 litres of petrol per month. Instead of reducing prices at petrol pumps, the government will give the amount as direct cash support.
Payments will start between April 15 and 20 after quick verification. Sindh has about 6.7 million registered motorcycles.
To make the process easy, the Excise Department will launch a mobile app within the next few days. Motorcycle owners can link their vehicles to their CNIC through the app.
The CM also introduced free ownership transfer so people can quickly register bikes in their own names and become eligible. He urged citizens to check and update their motorcycle records on the Excise website.
Small farmers will also get relief. The government will provide a Rs1,500 per acre subsidy to offset rising diesel costs. This support will cover nearly two million acres cultivated by small farmers.
The relief measures come as fuel prices have crossed Rs. 458 per litre for petrol, putting heavy pressure on daily commuters and the agriculture sector.
The Sindh government said these steps are part of targeted help for common people during the ongoing energy crisis. Officials hope the subsidy will reach genuine owners quickly and bring some comfort to millions of motorcyclists and farmers.
