Tamim Iqbal Becomes Youngest Bangladesh Cricket Board President

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has named former national team captain Tamim Iqbal as its new president, following the government’s decision to dissolve the previous board amid allegations of election irregularities. This move comes after an official investigation into the disputed elections held in October, which reportedly uncovered issues prompting immediate administrative changes.

Tamim Iqbal will head an 11-member ad hoc committee comprised of former cricketers and experienced cricket officials. The committee has been tasked with overseeing the administration of cricket in Bangladesh, ensuring the smooth functioning of all operations, and restoring public and stakeholder confidence in the board. Authorities have given the group a timeline of three months to conduct new elections, emphasizing that the process must be transparent, fair, and inclusive.

Speaking on his appointment, Tamim highlighted the importance of rebuilding trust within the cricketing community and improving governance across all levels of the sport. He stressed that the committee’s focus will be on fostering collaboration among players, officials, and other stakeholders, as well as creating a structure that supports fair participation and long-term development of cricket in Bangladesh. He further underlined that his leadership aims to strengthen the integrity and credibility of the board while ensuring that decisions are made in the best interest of the sport and its fans.

This appointment marks a significant step toward stabilizing cricket administration in Bangladesh and signals the government’s commitment to transparency and accountability in managing the country’s most popular sport.
