North Korea F!res Two Rounds of B@llistic Miss!les

North Korea launched multiple short-range ballistic missiles in two separate rounds on Wednesday, according to South Korea’s military. This marks the country’s fourth and fifth ballistic missile tests of 2026.

The first round was detected on Tuesday from an area near Pyongyang. On Wednesday morning, several more missiles were fired from the Wonsan coastal area toward the East Sea (Sea of Japan). The missiles flew approximately 240 kilometres before landing in the sea.

The launches come just days after South Korean President Lee Jae-myung made efforts to improve relations with the North, including recent remarks about past drone incidents. Analysts see these tests as a clear rejection of Seoul’s peace overtures and a show of force by Pyongyang.

South Korea has increased its military vigilance in response. Japan and the United States are closely monitoring the situation. No missiles entered Japanese territory, and there was no immediate threat to the US or its allies.

The repeated missile activity has raised fresh concerns about stability on the Korean Peninsula. North Korea has been steadily expanding its missile capabilities in recent years. These tests add to growing tensions despite occasional diplomatic signals from both sides.

The international community continues to urge North Korea to stop provocative actions and return to dialogue for lasting peace in the region.
