Mobile and internet packages in Pakistan are expected to become more expensive as telecom companies have requested a significant increase in tariffs. These companies have approached the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority, explaining that their operating costs have risen sharply in recent months.
One of the main reasons for this increase is the higher cost of fuel and energy. Telecom operators rely heavily on diesel generators to keep their networks running during frequent power outages. As fuel prices continue to rise, maintaining these systems has become more expensive.
In addition, ongoing load shedding across the country has made it difficult for companies to provide uninterrupted services. They also pointed out that global oil price changes, influenced by regional tensions, have further added to their financial burden.
Telecom companies have warned that if tariffs are not increased, the quality of service may be affected. This could be especially noticeable in remote and rural areas, where maintaining network infrastructure is already challenging and costly.
The proposed increase is expected to be between 10% and 15%. If approved, this would lead to higher costs for mobile users, including more expensive call, SMS, and internet packages. Consumers may have to spend more on regular recharges and data usage.
The proposal is currently under review by the authorities. A final decision has not yet been announced, but any increase will directly impact millions of users across the country.
