Russia has approved the import of fish and seafood from Pakistan, marking an important development in trade relations between the two countries. Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs Muhammad Junaid Anwar Chaudhry described the decision as a historic milestone.
He said that Pakistani seafood will now be exported to Russia for the first time, opening a new market for local exporters. This move is expected to boost Pakistan’s seafood industry and increase export revenues.
According to the minister, 16 Pakistani companies have been granted approval to export fish and seafood products to Russia. These companies have met the required standards and regulations set by Russian authorities, ensuring quality and safety for consumers.
The minister also highlighted that this development could create further opportunities beyond Russia. Access to the Russian market may help Pakistani exporters enter the wider Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU), which includes several countries in the region. This could significantly expand Pakistan’s export potential.
Industry experts believe that this step will strengthen Pakistan’s position in the global seafood market. It may also encourage local companies to improve processing standards and increase production capacity.
Officials added that efforts will continue to support exporters and explore new markets for Pakistani products. The government aims to enhance trade relations and promote economic growth through such initiatives.
