Pakistan’s Hajj operations for 2026 began on Saturday, April 18, as the first flight departed from Karachi’s Jinnah International Airport carrying 160 pilgrims to Madinah. The flight, operated by AirSial, left early in the morning. Sindh Governor Nehal Hashmi and other senior officials were present to see off the pilgrims with prayers and good wishes.
This marks the start of a 34-day pre-Hajj flight operation that will run until May 21. A total of 468 flights will carry about 119,000 pilgrims under the government scheme to Madinah and Makkah. Of these, 67,230 are men, and 51,846 are women. The first flights are heading to Madinah, while flights to Jeddah will begin from May 4.
Around 31,000 pilgrims are expected to depart from Karachi under the government scheme. Nationwide, Pakistan has a total quota of nearly 180,000 pilgrims. Roughly 120,000 will travel through the official government arrangement, while about 60,000 will go via private operators.
Officials confirmed that all pilgrims have received necessary vaccinations and medical checks. Arrangements in Makkah and Madinah are complete, including accommodation and transport. The Ministry of Religious Affairs expressed confidence that the entire operation will run smoothly with full coordination between Pakistani and Saudi authorities.
For many pilgrims, this journey is a dream come true after years of waiting and saving. Families gathered at the airport with emotional farewells. Airlines, including PIA, Airblue, AirSial, and Saudi Airlines, are taking part in the operation.
The successful departure from Karachi brings hope for a safe and blessed Hajj season. Authorities have urged pilgrims to follow all rules and stay in touch with their groups for a trouble-free experience.
