Pakistan has approved a significant modernization initiative aimed at upgrading its aviation infrastructure, with a particular focus on enhancing air traffic control systems at Jinnah International Airport in Karachi and Allama Iqbal International Airport in Lahore. The decision is part of a broader effort to improve the safety, efficiency, and reliability of the country’s rapidly expanding air transport network.
The project will introduce advanced technologies designed to strengthen real-time flight monitoring, improve navigation accuracy, and enhance overall operational coordination within Pakistan’s airspace. In addition, a modern flight management system is set to be implemented across the Karachi and Lahore airspace regions, enabling better surveillance, smoother communication between control units, and improved handling of increasing air traffic volumes.
Officials have stated that the modernization will replace aging and outdated systems currently in use, which are no longer sufficient to meet rising demands and international aviation standards. The upgrade is expected to significantly improve situational awareness for air traffic controllers and reduce operational risks in busy flight corridors.
The Central Development Working Party has formally approved the project, marking a key step forward in its execution. International tenders are expected to be issued soon to ensure the deployment of advanced technology and expertise from global aviation solution providers. The initiative is seen as a crucial development in strengthening Pakistan’s aviation safety framework and supporting future growth in both domestic and international air travel.
