The Punjab Assembly has approved a set of amendments aimed at reducing traffic fines across the province, providing significant financial relief to motorists. The decision reflects an effort to make traffic penalties more balanced while easing the burden on daily commuters who frequently face fines for minor violations.
Under the revised law, penalties for motorcycles, rickshaws, cars, and heavy vehicles have been substantially reduced. The adjustments are intended to address public concerns regarding the high cost of routine traffic violations and to create a more proportionate system of enforcement. Motorcycle riders and rickshaw drivers, who are among the most frequently fined road users, will see notable reductions in penalties. Similarly, fines for minor offences involving private cars have been lowered, and charges for heavy transport vehicles have also been decreased.
Despite these changes, the assembly has maintained strict penalties for serious traffic violations. In particular, speeding fines will remain unchanged, reflecting continued emphasis on road safety and the prevention of accidents caused by reckless driving. Authorities have clarified that while general penalties are being relaxed, enforcement against dangerous driving behavior will remain firm.
The amended legislation will come into effect after receiving final approval from the provincial governor. Once implemented, the updated fine structure is expected to bring relief to a large number of drivers while still maintaining necessary road discipline across Punjab.
