Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah has expressed regret over the long delays in the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) Red Line project on University Road in Karachi. On April 26, 2026, while visiting the site, he apologised to the people of Karachi for the inconvenience caused to daily commuters.
University Road is one of Karachi’s busiest routes. Construction work for the Asian Development Bank-funded BRT Red Line has been going on for years, but slow progress has left large parts of the road in poor condition. This has created heavy traffic jams, dust, and daily hardship for hundreds of thousands of people.
The Chief Minister announced that the mixed-traffic lanes, covering about 12 kilometres, will be fully reconstructed within 90 days. The work will include proper drainage and road restoration. He said the Sindh government will fund this as a separate project, while the main BRT corridor continues. The Frontier Works Organisation (FWO) has already taken over and restarted construction.
Mayor Murtaza Wahab confirmed that work has begun and regular updates will be shared with the public. The government also plans to reissue the tender for the remaining BRT section on an emergency basis to speed things up.
CM Murad Ali Shah assured citizens that the upgraded road will meet modern standards and ease commuting problems. He added that the government is fully aware of public frustration and is committed to delivering quick relief.
This announcement comes after growing criticism of the BRT delays. People hope the 90-day deadline will finally bring improvement to one of Karachi’s most important roads.
