Rawalpindi is facing a serious crisis as security guards at major government hospitals have gone on strike. Guards from Holy Family Hospital, Benazir Bhutto Hospital, and DHQ Hospital blocked Murree Road in protest. They have not received salaries for the past three to four months.
The angry workers said they are unable to feed their families or pay rent due to these long delays. Many guards are daily-wage workers who depend on monthly pay for basic needs. Their protest caused heavy traffic jams and also affected hospital services.
During the demonstration, an elderly security guard suddenly suffered a heart attack. He was rushed to the hospital for immediate treatment. The shocking incident has increased worries about the health and welfare of these low-paid workers.
This is not the first time hospital staff in Rawalpindi have faced salary delays. Earlier in 2026, over 250 daily-wage workers at these hospitals protested similar problems before Eid. Such repeated delays point to poor financial management in the provincial health department.
Doctors, nurses, and patients are worried about security inside hospitals during the strike. Many fear that without proper guards, hospital safety could be at risk.
Labour leaders and citizens are demanding immediate payment of all dues. They also want a proper system so that salaries are paid on time every month. The Punjab government must take quick action to solve this issue and prevent such crises in the future.
