Türkiye has reportedly unveiled what is being described as its first intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM), named “Yildirimhan,” during the SAHA 2026 Defense and Aerospace Expo held in Istanbul. The presentation of the system has attracted significant attention due to the scale and strategic implications associated with such long-range missile technology.
According to the claims surrounding the development, the “Yildirimhan” missile has been developed under the National Defense Ministry’s Research and Development Center. It is reported to feature an estimated operational range of around 6,000 kilometers, placing it in the category of intercontinental strike capabilities. The missile is also said to reach extremely high velocities, reportedly between Mach 9 and Mach 25, which would make it one of the faster systems of its type if verified.
The system is further described as being powered by four rocket engines and utilizing liquid nitrogen tetroxide as a propellant, indicating a complex and advanced propulsion design. Such specifications, if accurate, suggest a significant step forward in missile engineering and long-range strike capability.
The unveiling has been highlighted as part of Türkiye’s broader efforts to strengthen its defense sector, particularly in areas such as missile technology, unmanned aerial systems, and aerospace engineering.
