Pakistan’s Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO) has predicted that Eid-ul-Adha will likely be celebrated on Wednesday, May 27, 2026. This forecast is based on astronomical calculations for the sighting of the Zilhajj moon.
According to SUPARCO, the new moon of Zilhajj 1447 AH is expected to be born on May 17, 2026, at 1:01 am Pakistan Standard Time. There are favourable chances of seeing the crescent on the evening of May 17, especially in coastal areas of the country.
If the moon is sighted as expected, the first day of Zilhajj will fall on Monday, May 18. Eid-ul-Adha, which is observed on the 10th of Zilhajj, would then be on May 27.
SUPARCO has specified that the final decision regarding moon sighting and exact dates will be made by Pakistan’s Central Ruet-i-Hilal Committee following actual observations on the evening of May 17. Weather conditions will be crucial for the sighting.
Eid-ul-Adha, also known as Bakra Eid, is one of the biggest festivals for Muslims. It commemorates the willingness of Prophet Ibrahim (AS) to sacrifice his son for Allah. Families will offer Qurbani, distribute meat to the poor, and enjoy festive gatherings.
People across Pakistan have started making plans for the festival. Markets are expected to become busy with shopping for animals, clothes, and sweets in the coming days.
