Pakistan has seen a big jump in internet access as household internet connections reached 5.10 million in 2026. This is a sharp increase from just 1.9 million connections in 2024, showing fast growth in the country’s digital sector.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif was briefed about this progress during a high-level meeting on May 11, 2026. The government is working hard to expand IT infrastructure, reduce the digital gap between cities and villages, and bring better internet services to more people.
PM Shehbaz Sharif stressed the importance of empowering young people through technology. He said digital initiatives will improve public services and help Pakistan grow faster in the modern world. The government is also introducing free internet hotspots and e-learning pods across the country to increase access for students and common citizens.
Pakistan’s IT exports are expected to reach up to $4.6 billion this fiscal year. The country also successfully held a record-breaking 5G spectrum auction earlier this year, which raised around $507 million. These steps are expected to bring faster internet and create more jobs in the IT sector.
This rapid growth in internet connections is a positive sign for Pakistan’s digital future. Officials believe it will open new opportunities for youth, businesses, and the overall economy.
