Maryam Nawaz Sharif has launched a major free housing program for labourers in Punjab, aiming to improve living conditions for low-income workers across the province.
Under this initiative, homes have been handed over to 720 workers at the Sundar Estate Flats Project. The program focuses on providing safe and secure housing for labourers who often struggle to afford their own homes.
Special priority has been given to widows and people with disabilities, ensuring that the most vulnerable groups receive support first. Officials said this step is part of a broader plan to promote social welfare and reduce housing problems among working families.
The scheme is being managed through the Punjab Employees Social Security Institution. According to the government, the long-term goal is to provide more than 5,000 houses within the next three years.
In addition to apartments, the plan also includes distribution of plots and access to easy construction loans so people can build their own homes.
Maryam Nawaz Sharif said that each apartment provided under the scheme is worth around Rs. 3.5 million and has been given completely free of cost to eligible workers. She added that the government is committed to improving the quality of life for labourers through practical housing support.
She also highlighted the success of the “Apni Chhat Apna Ghar” program, under which thousands of homes have already been delivered across different areas of Punjab.
Officials believe these housing projects will help reduce homelessness, improve living standards, and provide long-term stability for working-class families in the province.
