Pakistan’s Seafood Exports Surpass $500 Million for First Time in History

Pakistan has achieved a historic milestone in its maritime sector as seafood exports crossed $500 million for the first time in fiscal year 2025-26. This remarkable achievement shows the growing strength and potential of Pakistan’s seafood industry.

According to official data, Pakistan exported 122,629 tonnes of seafood worth $253.24 million in the first six months of the current fiscal year. This reflects strong year-on-year growth. Frozen fish remained the top export item, followed by shrimps, prawns, and cuttlefish.

China continues to be the largest buyer of Pakistani seafood. Other important markets include Thailand, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Japan, and new destinations such as Russia and European Union countries. The diversification of export markets has played a key role in this success.

The government is now focusing on further growth by establishing seafood processing zones and encouraging value-added seafood products. These steps aim to increase earnings and create more jobs in the coastal areas of Sindh and Balochistan.

This record achievement is being celebrated as a big win for Pakistan’s blue economy. Experts believe that with better infrastructure, modern processing facilities, and international quality standards, seafood exports can grow even more in the coming years.
