Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has taken a significant step for public safety by directing authorities to install safety nets under all manhole covers across the province. The move aims to prevent serious accidents caused by open or missing manholes, especially during the rainy season.
A pilot project has already begun in Gujranwala, where 30,000 manholes in drains, gutters, and sewer systems will be fitted with strong polyester-strip safety nets. These nets will act as a protective barrier, reducing the risk of people, especially children and motorcyclists, falling into dangerous holes.
During a high-level review meeting on development projects, CM Maryam Nawaz gave strict instructions for the speedy completion of this initiative. She also ordered the early completion of ongoing road works, installation of uniform road signboards, and better market aesthetics through coordinated shopfront designs and beautiful planters.
Additionally, the Chief Minister approved several urban development projects across Punjab. These include traffic system upgrades, improved street lighting, and beautification initiatives in major cities.
The Punjab government hopes these measures will make roads safer and cities more beautiful for the people.
