Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has approved the establishment of the Kulsoom Nawaz Cancer Hospital in Dera Ghazi Khan in a major step aimed at strengthening healthcare facilities in southern Punjab. The project is expected to significantly improve access to modern cancer treatment for thousands of patients living in remote and underdeveloped areas of the province.
According to officials, the proposed hospital will be developed at an estimated cost of Rs15.21 billion and will offer advanced oncology services, including diagnosis, chemotherapy, radiotherapy, and specialised care for cancer patients. The facility is being planned to reduce the burden on major hospitals in Lahore and other large cities where patients from southern Punjab currently travel for treatment, often facing financial and logistical difficulties.
Authorities said the hospital project is likely to be included in the upcoming provincial budget, while construction and development work is expected to continue between 2026 and 2029. Once completed, the hospital is expected to become one of the key healthcare institutions in the region and provide modern medical services closer to patients’ homes.
Punjab Health Minister Khawaja Salman Rafique stated that the initiative reflects the provincial government’s commitment to expanding specialised healthcare infrastructure across Punjab. He added that improving access to quality medical treatment, especially in less developed regions, remains a priority for the government under its ongoing healthcare reform agenda.
