Shops and Shopping Malls in Islamabad Ordered to Close by 8 PM

The Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) administration has once again imposed early closing timings for markets. All shops, markets, and shopping malls in the capital must now close by 8 PM every day, including weekends.

This order came through a notification issued by the District Magistrate on Sunday night. It took effect from Monday, June 1, 2026, and will continue until further notice. The main reason behind this step is to save energy and reduce fuel consumption amid rising prices and power shortages.

However, some essential services can stay open longer. Restaurants, tandoors, grocery stores, bakeries, and fruit and vegetable vendors are allowed to operate until 10 PM. Marriage halls, marquees, and venues hosting events, including those on private premises, must also close by 10 PM.

Pharmacies, hospitals, medical stores, petrol pumps, and CNG stations are fully exempted from these restrictions.

The ICT administration has asked people and business owners to follow the new timings strictly. This move is part of broader austerity measures across Pakistan to manage the current energy crisis. Many residents support the decision for energy saving, while some shopkeepers worry about its effect on their business.
