Pakistan Army successfully hosted the “Marka-e-Haq 2nd Sarfaranga National Marathon” in Skardu, attracting more than 1,000 athletes from different regions of the country, including a strong representation from Gilgit-Baltistan. Held amidst the breathtaking landscapes of the high-altitude Sarfaranga area, the event celebrated athletic excellence, endurance, and national unity.
The marathon featured a challenging 21-kilometer race as its main event, while special fun run categories were organized for senior citizens and students to encourage participation across all age groups. The competition provided a platform for athletes to showcase their talent while promoting a healthy and active lifestyle among the public.
Muhammad Akhtar emerged as the winner of the main marathon, securing first position and receiving a cash prize of Rs. 1 million along with a commemorative medal in recognition of his outstanding performance. Participants demonstrated remarkable determination and resilience throughout the race, which tested both physical fitness and mental strength due to the demanding terrain and altitude.
The event highlighted the growing popularity of endurance sports in Pakistan and reinforced the importance of fitness, sportsmanship, and community engagement. Organizers described the marathon as a successful initiative that brought together people from diverse backgrounds, fostering a spirit of healthy competition, national cohesion, and mutual respect while showcasing the natural beauty and tourism potential of Skardu and Gilgit-Baltistan.
