Pakistan’s youngest Member of the National Assembly (MNA), Nawabzada Mir Jamal Khan Raisani, has introduced a bill in the National Assembly to make the death penalty the strongest punishment for acid attack criminals.
Raisani, who represents the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) from Quetta, says current punishments are too weak to stop these terrible crimes. He submitted the Criminal Law (Amendment) Bill 2026, which seeks to change Section 336-B of the Pakistan Penal Code. The bill keeps existing penalties like life imprisonment or 14 years in jail but adds death penalty as the maximum punishment. It also proposes a minimum fine of Rs 1 million for the victim.
The young lawmaker stressed that acid attacks cause lifelong pain. Victims, mostly women, suffer physical scars, mental trauma, and social problems for the rest of their lives. “The fear must change sides,” Raisani said. He added that the state must come down hard on those who throw acid, so others think twice before committing such acts.
This bill comes after a shocking acid attack on Dr. Mahnoor Nasir, a lady doctor in Quetta. The incident shocked the whole country and renewed calls for stronger action against violence against women.
Raisani, 25, became Pakistan’s youngest MNA after winning the 2024 election. He is the son of the late Nawabzada Siraj Raisani, who was killed in a 2018 suicide bombing. As a former footballer turned politician, he is using his position to fight for justice and women’s safety.
The bill will now go to a standing committee for review. If passed, it could bring major change in how Pakistan deals with acid violence.
