Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has directed all relevant departments to take immediate measures to protect residents from the ongoing intense heatwave affecting various parts of the province. The chief minister ordered the installation of shaded shelters at busy markets, traffic intersections, and other public areas to provide relief to people exposed to extreme temperatures during the day.
She also instructed authorities to ensure the availability of cold drinking water, fans, and other cooling facilities at bus terminals, railway stations, wagon stands, and government offices. Educational institutions conducting summer camps have been directed to make proper arrangements to keep students safe and comfortable in the hot weather, including adequate cooling and hydration facilities.
In addition, citizens have been urged to avoid unnecessary outdoor activities during peak heat hours, with special emphasis on protecting vulnerable groups such as women, children, and senior citizens. Traffic police have also been instructed not to keep motorcyclists waiting for extended periods under direct sunlight. The provincial government says these measures are aimed at minimizing health risks and helping people cope with the severe weather conditions currently being experienced across Punjab.
