The Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) has approved a Technical Supplementary Grant (TSG) of Rs. 10 million for the Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs to cover food and refreshment expenses for lawmakers during the ongoing federal budget session.
According to officials, the Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs is responsible for managing legislative business in both houses of Parliament. During the annual budget process, parliamentary sessions often continue for long hours and extend beyond normal working schedules, increasing operational requirements.
The ministry informed the ECC that the existing budget allocated under the “Entertainment and Gifts” category was not sufficient to meet the expenses associated with the extended budget meetings. As a result, additional funding was requested to ensure the smooth conduct of parliamentary proceedings.
After reviewing the request, the Finance Division supported the proposal and recommended the release of supplementary funds. The ECC subsequently approved the allocation of Rs. 10 million under the Parliamentary Affairs Division for the fiscal year 2025-26.
Officials explained that budget sessions are constitutionally important and require extensive discussions, debates, and consultations among lawmakers. These activities often involve long working hours, making logistical arrangements necessary for members participating in the proceedings.
The approval of the supplementary grant is intended to help the ministry manage operational needs during the budget period without disrupting parliamentary activities.
The decision has attracted public attention as discussions continue over government spending and budget priorities. While officials describe the allocation as a routine administrative requirement, it comes at a time when fiscal management and public expenditure remain key topics of debate.
Authorities maintain that the funding is necessary to support parliamentary operations during one of the most important legislative processes of the year, ensuring that lawmakers can effectively carry out their responsibilities throughout the budget session.
