Pakistan’s higher education sector has achieved another milestone in the QS World University Rankings 2027, with 18 universities from the country earning places in the global rankings.
Among all Pakistani institutions, Quaid-i-Azam University (QAU) secured the highest position, ranking jointly 381st in the world.
It was closely followed by the National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST), which ranked 384th. The Pakistan Institute of Engineering and Applied Sciences (PIEAS) also performed well, securing the 560th position globally.
The QS World University Rankings evaluated 1,504 universities from around the world. The assessment was based on several important factors, including academic reputation, research quality and impact, employer reputation, and graduate employability.
Several other Pakistani universities also earned spots on the global list. These included the University of Punjab, Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS), and COMSATS University, among others. Their presence in the rankings reflects the growing strength and recognition of Pakistan’s higher education institutions on the international stage.
The latest rankings highlight the efforts being made by universities across Pakistan to improve teaching standards, expand research activities, and strengthen links with industries and employers. These improvements are helping Pakistani institutions gain greater visibility and credibility worldwide.
The inclusion of 18 universities in the QS rankings is an encouraging sign for the country’s education sector. It demonstrates the progress being made in higher education and showcases the potential of Pakistani universities to compete with institutions from around the world.
