The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has warned that temperatures across most of Pakistan will stay above normal from July to September 2026. This hot weather, combined with the monsoon rains, may create a difficult season for the country.
PMD expects normal to slightly below-normal rainfall overall. However, northern areas including Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Kashmir could see heavy rains at times. These rains may cause flash floods, landslides, and faster melting of glaciers. Urban areas might also face flooding due to poor drainage.
Southern parts of Punjab and Sindh are likely to face periodic heatwaves. Long periods of warm and humid weather can help spread diseases like dengue, which is carried by mosquitoes. Farmers should also prepare for possible water shortages in some regions.
The monsoon is expected to start in the first week of July. PMD advises people to stay hydrated, avoid going out in extreme heat, and keep an eye on weather updates. Local governments and disaster management teams need to stay ready for emergencies.
Citizens should follow official instructions and support efforts to stay safe during this challenging weather season.
