Prime Minister has approved an allocation of Rs. 11 billion to support Pakistan’s preparations for hosting the 14th South Asian Games, scheduled to take place in March 2027.
The event will mark the return of the regional multi-sport competition after a gap of 22 years, making it one of the biggest sporting occasions Pakistan has hosted in decades.
Preparations are set to begin immediately, with the funding to be used for upgrading sports venues, improving infrastructure, strengthening logistics, and establishing a dedicated Games Secretariat in Islamabad to oversee planning and coordination.
More than 3,500 athletes from eight South Asian nations are expected to participate in 27 sporting disciplines, with competitions taking place across Lahore, Islamabad, and Faisalabad.
Officials believe hosting the Games will highlight Pakistan’s sporting facilities, encourage greater regional cooperation through sports, boost tourism and economic activity, and provide a valuable international platform for the country’s emerging athletes to compete alongside the region’s best talent.
