Goodbye SpaceX? China Successfully Tests Reusable Rocket

China has reached a big milestone in its space program. On July 10, 2026, the country successfully tested a reusable Long March 10B rocket. The rocket launched from the Hainan Commercial Space Launch Site. After separating, its first-stage booster returned and landed safely on a floating platform in the sea.

This was China’s first successful recovery of an orbital-class rocket booster. The booster was caught using a special net-like system on a ship. It marks a major step toward reusable rocket technology, similar to what SpaceX does with its Falcon rockets.

Reusable rockets can greatly reduce launch costs because the same booster can be used again instead of being thrown away. This breakthrough will help China compete better in the global space race against companies like SpaceX and Blue Origin. Lower costs can mean more frequent launches for satellites, space stations, and future missions.

The success boosted confidence in China’s space industry. Shares of several Chinese space companies rose after the news.

Experts say this test puts China closer to matching American reusable rocket capabilities. The country plans to reuse the booster by the end of 2026.
