Pakistan has officially begun exporting premium-quality donkey meat to China for the first time, marking a significant milestone in bilateral trade and opening a new avenue for the country’s livestock and meat export industry.
The inaugural shipment was processed at a state-of-the-art facility located in the Gwadar Free Zone before being successfully exported to the Chinese market.
The development is expected to boost Pakistan’s agricultural and livestock sectors while creating new economic opportunities for local farmers, suppliers, and workers involved in the value chain.
The initiative is also anticipated to contribute to higher foreign exchange earnings, generate employment, and strengthen Pakistan’s position as an emerging exporter of specialized livestock products.
Officials believe the project will encourage further investment in modern meat processing and export infrastructure.
A Chinese company has invested approximately $50 million in establishing an advanced processing facility in Gwadar to cater to the growing demand for donkey meat and hides in China.
The investment reflects increasing industrial activity under the second phase of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) and highlights the expanding trade partnership between the two countries.
With rising international demand and improved processing capabilities, the project is expected to enhance Pakistan’s export potential, support economic growth in the Gwadar region, and pave the way for additional livestock-based exports in the future.
