Iran has announced the suspension of its commitments under the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the United States, claiming that Washington was the first to violate the terms of the agreement.
Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi stated that the US stopped fulfilling its obligations under the framework, prompting Tehran to suspend its own commitments in response.
He said Iran is no longer implementing the provisions of the MoU and is instead prioritizing the country’s defence and national security as regional tensions continue to escalate.
According to Iranian officials, the decision reflects a shift in focus from diplomatic engagement to addressing immediate security concerns amid the evolving situation in the Middle East.
Tehran maintains that its actions are a direct response to what it describes as Washington’s failure to uphold the agreement.
The move marks another setback in already strained US-Iran relations, further complicating diplomatic efforts aimed at reducing tensions.
Analysts believe the suspension could make future negotiations more difficult while adding to concerns over regional stability and the risk of further escalation.
