Relief for Workers! Punjab Sets New Daily Wages at Rs. 1,538 for Unskilled and Rs. 2,000 for Skilled Workers

The Punjab government has announced new daily wage rates for workers employed on government development and construction projects for the period from July to December 2026.

According to the revised rates, unskilled workers will receive Rs. 1,538 per day. Skilled workers, including electricians, plumbers, welders, and masons, will now earn Rs. 2,000 per day for their work on government projects.

The government has also increased wages for semi-skilled workers. Employees such as gardeners and chainmen will receive Rs. 1,560 per day under the new wage structure. In addition, the minimum monthly wage has been set at Rs. 40,000 to provide better financial support for workers and their families.

The revised wage rates will be used in the cost estimates of government development and construction projects across Punjab. Officials say the updated rates are intended to reflect current labor costs and ensure workers are paid fairly for their services.

The decision is expected to improve the income of thousands of workers involved in public sector projects. Higher wages may also help workers manage the rising cost of living and meet their daily household expenses more comfortably.

Construction and development projects play an important role in creating employment opportunities across the province. The updated wage rates are expected to benefit workers in different trades while supporting ongoing infrastructure and development work.

The Punjab government’s latest announcement is part of its effort to improve working conditions and provide better financial protection for laborers.

Authorities believe the revised wage structure will help ensure fair compensation, encourage skilled workers to participate in government projects, and support the smooth completion of development work throughout the province during the July to December 2026 period.
