In a proud moment for Pakistan, 14-year-old student Malaika Khilji from Balochistan has become the first woman from her province to reach the top of Khosar Gang Peak. This mountain, standing about 6,040 to 6,050 meters high in the Karakoram Range of Gilgit-Baltistan, is a challenging climb near Shigar Valley.
The expedition was part of the National Women Expedition 2026, organized by the Alpine Club of Pakistan. A team of women climbers took part, led by experienced mountaineer Bibi Afzoon. Malaika showed great courage and skill during the difficult journey. At the summit, she proudly raised the Pakistani flag, showing her love for her country.
Malaika’s success is historic. She is not only the first female summiteer from Balochistan but also one of the youngest in the group. The Alpine Club of Pakistan called her Balochistan’s “proud daughter” and praised her hard work and bravery. They said her achievement inspires young girls across Pakistan to follow their dreams in sports and adventure, even in tough conditions.
This feat highlights the growing talent and determination of youth from remote areas. It also promotes women’s participation in mountaineering. Families and communities in Balochistan can now see new possibilities for their daughters.
