Islamabad Police have received a new net launcher as authorities increase security arrangements ahead of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) march planned for September 27. Police officials said the equipment can fire a net at high speed to restrict the movement of a targeted person.
Officials said the device could be used in situations involving resistance to arrest, damage to public property or other difficult law-and-order situations. It is expected to be used in Islamabad for the first time during the upcoming protest. Police described it as an additional tool to help officers restrain individuals during arrests and emergencies.
Security measures have also been expanded across the federal capital. Islamabad’s district administration has imposed Section 144 for two months, under which gatherings, rallies and demonstrations are prohibited. The order was issued on September 18 and came into effect immediately.
Authorities have also been preparing for possible traffic and security disruptions by placing containers at several locations and strengthening deployment around important routes and entry points.
Reports further indicate that mobile phone and internet services are expected to be suspended in Islamabad, Rawalpindi and parts of Attock on September 26 and 27 as part of the security arrangements.
The measures come as PTI prepares for its announced September 27 march. Authorities have urged residents to follow the applicable restrictions and cooperate with security personnel during the period of heightened security.
