The Pakistani government is planning to purchase a new Toyota Land Cruiser to improve security arrangements for Chinese nationals working on and visiting projects under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). According to official documents, the vehicle is expected to cost around Rs. 9.5 crore.
The Planning Ministry said the new vehicle is needed because the Cabinet Division currently has a limited number of security vehicles. Due to this shortage, some official visits and meetings involving Chinese delegates have faced delays or even been cancelled.
The ministry believes that adding a dedicated vehicle will help ensure smoother transportation and better security for visiting officials and project teams.
To pay for the purchase, the government plans to reallocate funds from several projects within the ministry instead of requesting additional funding. Officials said this approach will allow the vehicle to be purchased without affecting the overall budget.
The purchase has been approved under the Public Procurement Regulatory Authority (PPRA) rules, which allow direct contracting in certain situations. This method is expected to speed up the procurement process and ensure the vehicle is available when needed.
After the Land Cruiser is purchased, it will be sent for bulletproofing according to the standard operating procedures set by the Ministry of Interior. The additional security features are intended to provide greater protection during official travel.
The government says the decision reflects Pakistan’s continued commitment to ensuring the safety of Chinese nationals associated with CPEC projects.
Officials believe that stronger security measures will support ongoing cooperation between Pakistan and China while helping ensure the smooth implementation of development projects across the country.
