The Islamabad Food Authority (IFA) has stepped up its efforts to improve food safety across the capital by carrying out 625 inspections over the past 10 days. The campaign is part of the authority’s ongoing mission to ensure that food served to the public is safe, clean, and prepared according to hygiene standards.
During the inspection drive, officials took action against several food businesses found violating food safety rules. A total of 59 restaurants, shops, and other food outlets were fined a combined amount of Rs. 1.2 million for failing to meet required health and safety standards.
The IFA also sealed 14 food outlets due to serious violations that posed risks to public health. In addition, inspectors destroyed 3,557 kilograms of unsafe food that was declared unfit for human consumption. The spoiled food included items that did not meet quality and hygiene requirements.
To help businesses improve, inspectors issued 387 improvement notices, giving owners clear instructions on how to correct problems and meet food safety regulations. The authority also responded to complaints from members of the public, taking prompt action wherever necessary.
Officials said the campaign is aimed at protecting consumers and encouraging food businesses to maintain high standards of cleanliness and food handling. They emphasized that all businesses are being treated equally and that inspections are being carried out without discrimination.
The Islamabad Food Authority has assured the public that enforcement operations will continue in the coming weeks. The authority hopes these efforts will improve food quality, strengthen hygiene practices, and ensure that restaurants and food businesses across Islamabad fully comply with food safety laws to protect public health.
